XKCD Discussion

This might be a little late, and for that, I apologize. I wanted to discuss the April Fool’s (although it wasn’t really an April Fool’s) XKCD comic.

Now, I’m sure that many of you are XKCD fans. I started reading/viewing maybe a couple of months ago and I love it (as I’m sure many of you do because…well…it’s awesome?)

Some of you may know that there was a sweet comic posted for April 1st (his Friday and subsequent Monday comic, but hey - we’ll give him a break b/c it was pretty sweet). Check it out for yourself.

Now, you might not see much of a difference from normal - it’s just a funny comic that has a really long and convoluted alt text and title. But that alt text and title is what’s interesting. See, depending on where you are, what time it is, what site you previously came from, and various other factors, you’ll see a different comic. For instance, Firefox users in Private Browsing report different comics than people in Chicago (me) who report seeing different comics than North Carolina users. In fact, there appears to be almost 25 different comics for that one day.

See? I thought it would be an interesting thread to both discuss the methods in which the artist accomplished this and also to rave about how we all love/hate XKCD.

Take it away, folks!
